Harris Jayaraj: Melody is his middle name!

Bollywood is familiar only with Ilayaraja and A.R. Rahman from the South, and very little is known about the abundance of talent in Chennai. Harris Jayaraj is the latest entrant to Bollywood now, as he has just been signed up for a film directed by A.R. Murugadoss (Ghajini) starring Shahrukh Khan! In the past, the Murugadoss-Harris combination has given some splendid numbers for Ghajini (Tamil) with Suriya in the lead.

Harris Jayaraj was born into a pious musical family in Chennai. He studied at Krishnasamy Matric School, Chennai; his father S.M. Jayakumar was a noted film guitarist. Harris had interest in music and was an early admirer of the work of Hans Zimmer, percussionist Aruljothi Balagopal and A.R. Rahman. Harris worked under A.R. Rahman and several other music directors before branching out on his own. He proved himself with several notable chart busters, especially in films where he worked with Gautham Menon. Currently, Harris Jayaraj is busy composing for Aadhavan starring Suriya and directed by K.S. Ravikumar.
